Lawmakers in Olympia took a brief break from the intensity of hearings, committees, bills and the budget (Thurs)...to honor what one legislator called 'the most powerful force on earth.' Ruth Johnson reports from Olympia.
Johnson: Dave Hayes of Camano Island has worn a lot of hats in his life. Not only is he a police officer and a state Representative, he is also a veteran. He spoke on the House floor about his time stationed at Whidbey Island. He spoke less of how he served in the Navy, and more about how the Navy served him. He says it made him the man he is today.
Hayes: “These men and women are community leaders, role models, mentors for our young people. They provide the homeland security. They are the US Navy. They are the global force for good.”
Johnson: Hayes spoke in favor of House Resolution 4670, celebrating the Navy, which received a unanimous ‘yes’ from lawmakers. Then it was back to the bills, the budget, the business of lawmaking.
