Olympia High School student helps Rep. Dave Hayes around the House

Sylvanus Dennis, a student at Olympia High School, formerly of Whidbey Island, is serving as a page this week in the Washington State House of Representatives. He was sponsored by Rep. Dave Hayes, R-Camano Island.
During the legislative session, young people from throughout the state are chosen to serve for one week in the Page Program. Page duties are varied. They range from ceremonial tasks, such as presenting the flags, to operational chores like distributing amendments during legislative sessions. Each job is vital to the efficient operation of the Legislature.
To serve as a page for the House of Representatives, a student must have permission from a parent or guardian and from school, be sponsored by a member of the House of Representatives, and be at least 14 years of age and have not have reached his or her 17th birthday.
Sylvanus enjoys playing guitar, making animations and doing school work. He is the 16-year-old son of Christopher and Joy Dennis of Waukegan, IL., who are former residents of Whidbey Island.
